Hermanns Tortoise, Ben, believed to be male - requires a new home please Posted: 01/02/2013 by TPGDarren
Due to moving house, the current keepers are looking to rehome Ben (believed to be male – unconfirmed by us). The current keeper took on Ben about 7 years ago as a favour as he was an unwanted pet and convalescing following a period of anorexia. The current keepers have managed to get him back to what they believe is an appropriate weight and he is a lively active fellow and Ben has managed 6 successful hibernations since being ill. Ben is believed to be around 50-60 years old and is located in Canterbury Kent.
If you have already completed a rehoming application form, we haven’t e-mailed you for further information and you are interested in rehoming any of the tortoises we have available, please e-mail us at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk.
If you haven’t completed an application form, details of how to apply can be found here:-

Hello Darren, my tortoise , Steve, died two years ago. He had lived with me for just over 40 years. We have of course long disposed of his house, and indoor shed space but could quickly sort out new arrangements if there was a chance of re-homing an adult tortoise with us. Steve largely lived free in our secure garden in the summer, and hibernated in the shed each year. We would be happy to take one or two tortoises, but would need a little time to get organised. I believe I completed one of your application forms a year or so ago, but cannot find a saved copy here. I'd be very grateful if you could, check your records and let me know if any further information is needed or if I can proceed to offer a home to Ben or to a similar pair who would be happy living together. Kind regards,
Morag Shaw

Hi Morag, Good to hear from you. We believe we have found a home for Ben, but we have had a lot of rehomers coming in recently:-( Here is a guide on how to foster a tortoise from the TPG. Please take time to read all the information. Firstly you will need to submit a registration form which can be downloaded from the TPG website here: http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/131.asp If you have any difficulty downloading the form, please drop us a line at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk and we will send you a form in e-mail format. All you have to do then is hit reply, fill in the form and send it back to us at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk. Please note that registration forms will not be accepted without photos (these can be sent in a separate e-mail), these should document where the tortoise will go to warm up, suitable grazing areas, shed/greenhouses/coldframes etc. This will allow us and the current keeper to make the best match for the tortoise(s), ensuring continuity of care, which is paramount. If you have more than one species, please label the photos so we know which species are kept in what areas. Once we have received your registration form, we will then upload your details into our database for future reference so you won't have to submit this information again. We would be grateful however if you inform us of any changes to your current circumstances e.g. house move or any changes to accommodation/where the tortoise(s) will spend their time. Once you have registered, details of tortoises available can be found on:- Our Website:- http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/181.asp Forum:- http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/130.asp?sID=35 Facebook Page:- http://www.facebook.com/groups/176756865781132/?ref=ts&fref=ts
If you see a tortoise that you are interested in fostering, you will simply need to make us aware of it by emailing rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk We will then contact you if we and the current owners think you are a suitable match. Be aware that not every email is answered as we get so many responses, please don't be put off by this. HTH Darren
