Hi - I'm new to tortoise keeping and have recently rehomed an 18 month old Turkish spur thighed tortoise. I've read that weight gain should be gradual so I purchased some digital scales and on 17 Aug she weighed 55g. On 21 Aug she weighed 62 g and on 24 August she tipped the scales at 71g. I'm wondering if it's the scales as she eats quite modestly, a little dandelion, wild strawberry leaves and cucumber. I've dusted her food with Nutrobal. I find it hard to believe she's gained so much weight, should I be worried?

Hello, It may be the scales, or it could drop when it 'evacuates'. I trust it's living outside, with good access to shade. Tom

Yes, thanks, she's outside in good weather, and inside at night and seems well in herself. I hoped regular weighing be reassuring but it's having the opposite effect!

That's good. I'd borrow a friend's scales & xref. See what wt's are over 4wks. Better gaining wt than losing !! Tom
