Hi all,

I noticed a post on here a month or so ago about marks in the shell, so i think my tort may have rings due to growth spurts. Can somebody confirm this for me though, as they seem more prominant than the pic which was posted by Darren. They seem to have got worse since she has been in the sun, whichs is leading me to beleive that it is nothing to worry about. I have checked her weight against the jackson ratio and she is about right for her size.

I would say these are caused by a growth spurt, just keep an eye on them, and if they change or get worse, then seek advice.

Are you weighing your tortoise regularly?  She does appear to be going through a more rapid growth phase at the moment, so keep an eye on how much you are feeding her, and make sure she is getting enough calcium and nutrobol.  Slow, smooth growth is the way to go

She was a little poorply after hibernation and lost a bit of weight in the weeks after waking. After a trip to an excellent vet, she was nursed better and put the weight back on and more since. I suppose if it had been gradual she would be about right but as she has made up for what she lost, maybe it has been a little fast. She has evened out now anyway, but i will keep an eye on it.
