Hi Komodo is a trade name, they normally make the domes to house the lights/heat lamps. The Black ceramics are new, they are used for night time heat as they do not show any visible light. They are designed for the use for reptiles such as lizards etc. You would only need ceramics has a heat source if you were housing the torts in a cold area which falls below 12c overnight, or if they are a tropical species that needs the temps set at a permanent level. I use the white ones in the shed for back up heat in the daytime when the weather turns cold, I bring the torts in over night.
