Please research correct diet for your pet. Posted: 04/04/2012 by DavidWYork |

Hi there. I have been sat inside watching the sleet and wind, frustrated that my torts cannot be outside. I am, however, just off to collect a whole load of wild picked food. It must be tempting to give easy available food to tortoises. They will accept junk food just like humans. We usually have a choice in what we eat...our tortoises have no such luxury. They live on what we give them. I thought these pictures might convince anyone not certain about diet, to research fully, and make a supreme effort to give their pet food and supplements. The first is a Horsefields, with morbid bone deficiency. The second, a Sulcata has such deformity it can no longer feed itself. Now we all know how difficult it can be to balance wild food, home grown, minerals and vitamins. Even some wild tortoises exhibit slight doming or pyramiding of shells...but these two must have been "abused" for years to get like this. They are not mine. Food for thought. Or should I say "Thought for food?" Regards, David nr York...3 degrees in April!

Please excuse disjointed text. It shifted when I pasted in the photos...but makes the point. David nr York.
