tort is less active!!
Posted: 23/09/2008 by aliceham

Hi People,
I am slightly worried about Percy. We have had him for two weeks now and he is 2 months old. I was just worried because over the days he's been getting less and less active. Is this normal?

Hi

Many tortoises at this time of year will start to slow down naturally as the daylight hours shorten and the temps fall in preparation for hibernation.  Having said that, can you let us know what type of tortoise Percy is, and let us have a few details about your set up?  Tortoises being cold blooded are very sensative to their surroundings, and he is still quite young.

all the best

Hi Alice,

Can you tell us what species Percy is, and how you are keeping him -- what sort of enclosure does he live in, what kind of heat and UV lights you have, the temperatures in his enclosure at the cool and the hot ends, what you are feeding him, and anything else you think might be relevant? It is the time of year when a lot of tortoises are starting to slow down, so it might be normal, but it's always good to rule out anything in his environment that might be causing his lack of energy.

OOps, sorry Arlene. I think we were both writing at the same time, and I hadn't seen your email when I posted mine. Singing from the same hymn book though {g}

Well percy is a hermans tortoise who lives on a tortoise table. He is two months old so we were not told to hibernate him by Suzy. He has a 10.00 repti-glo uv lamp and a day glo lamp for heat. He also has an extra swirly uv 5.00 bulb for backup. There are pictures of his enclosure under percy in the members gallery.
Hope this helps!
