i have 2 terrapins one of which is turning white round the edge of its shell, its a bleach stain white, what could this be. also my other terrapin seems as though its shell is peeling what could this be also. please reply im really worried

Hi there. Many years ago I kept terrapins, until they were too large for my tank so they were re-homed. I do, however, remember feeling like you do when shell changes occured. I was relieved when the offending white shell plates fell off like dead fingernails to reveal dark, patterned new shell below!

So I reckon this is a normal growth effect. Are you giving then calcium supplements? I used to grate cuttlefish onto food and feed them in a tray when they were hungry and they wolfed down whatever I gave them.

I hope a current terrapin keeper will pick up your posting and confirm my suspicions...I could be wrong of course.
