Sheldon has a bad leg :(
Posted: 21/06/2013 by SheldonBlake

Hi, we recently got given a Hermann tortoise by an old schoolfriend of my dads, due to it being nipped by the other tortoises in its viv. It had sustained a small bite mark on its bum, next to its right leg, and it has gone very red and sore. It looks a bit like a red blister. It has now stopped using its right leg to walk with and only uses its left. I am slightly worried as i think it is in pain and would like to do anything i can to make it comfortable. Does anybody know a good way to treat a tortoise bite on another tortoise, and how to soothe it so it stops limping? (Extra details: 2 years old, doesn't eat often even though food is there, doesnt drink often even when you put it in front of water) Thank you!

Hello,
From what you state, this injury is infected & veterinary treatment is needed urgently. What town is nearest to you? Let me know & I'll look up the nearest 'reptile vet.'
Regards
Tom

Hello Sheldon,
Yes really & I think you missed a word off the end of your sentance. I'd advise you to join the group & perhaps a small donation ?
A member recommends an Essex vet practice, but it's a long way from you & I can't recommend them. Best to take it to a local vets, It's not difficult to treat, but it's 2 days since you asked, so it is URGENT.
Let us know how it gets on please.
Regards
Tom
