Horsefield breeders in Kent
Posted: 20/09/2013 by alexburgers

Hello :)

I'm new to this site!

Sadly I have lost my beloved Boomer (horsefield/female) this week. It was extremely sad as she had a lot of character, she was EXTREMELY friendly and generally kind natured and came to me at my call. However I have came to the conclusion to not get my next horsefield from a Pet shop as a few months ago I found out from the vet she had a disease in her legs (which wasn't told by the pet shop and I have a gut feeling she was sent from a tortoise farm) I'm not entirely sure what it was called but she dragged her legs and struggled to walk at times.

In desperate to find a genuine Kent based seller who's an expert in Horsefields. I'm looking for a female and preferably meet a few Horsefields so I meet the perfect life time friend, it won't be the same but I've never meet such a friendly tortoise as much as my Boomer, she was my friend and I shall miss her terribly. If anyone could give me advice or any direction on finding a friendly female tortoise then comments are welcome.

Thank you for reading, Alex, 23,female,Tunbridge Wells.

Hello Alex,
Sadly 99.9% of Horsfields sold by pet dealers are wild caught
& are kept in dreadful conditions, from collection to distribution.
If you click on the "Tortoises for Sale" box, you will see that there is a breeder in East Sussex. Very few people breed Horsfields, so you are lucky to have someone so comparatively close.
Regards
Tom
ps with a breeder rather than a pet dealer, you will have the bonus of proper advice.

Here is a Genuine List of Verfied UK Breeders offering Tortoises For Sale in Kent and other areas.
To be honest, I would look to get a Spur-Thighed Tortoise (Ibera), Hermanns or a Marginated Tortoise. Horsfields are very hardy, but are unfortunately very apt at digging and tunneling:-(
