Info on species
Posted: 02/09/2014 by dannibi

Hello again! I have spent a lot of time trying to find out what species my older tortoise is, and I have now been told she is a Gilbert's white? I am not sure if there is a sub species etc, and I don't seem to be able to find much info on her 'type', please could someone point me in the right direction? I have no idea how old she is, as she is a rescue, but I have had her for 2 1/2 yrs now.

Thank you!

Hello,

The species is Furculachelys whitei. They originate in Algeria, often at considerable altitude in the Atlas Mountains.

They are hardy, so should be hibernated and are very good natured. They need an interesting enclosure of at least 25sqm.

If you post some good pics, I can confirm.

Regards,
Tom
