Looking for a stud for my horse field tortoise Posted: 02/11/2014 by Jo-oj-jo |

Hi, I am looking for a male stud horse field tortoise, in the East Anglia area to come and stay for a month or so. I have had my female since she was tiny, and this Autumn she has laid her first clutch of eggs, and this confirmed her sex. I would love to have a batch of babies but don't have room to permanently keep another, as she lives with a Hermans tortoise. They share a vivarium and have a dig area in the garden for when it is warm enough. They spend time roaming the house when it is too cold outside. I would appreciate all advise... Thanks

Hello, A good idea, the more that are bred the better, reducing dodgy imports. It would be best to improve your husbandry methods first - As your female has produced eggs, she is old enough to hibernate. Vivs are not good for torts.. Roaming the house ……. You will find lots of good advice if you click on "The Tortoise / Incl …" box & other boxes. Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom for your advice. I am building a cold house in my dig area in the garden for when they come out of hibernation, and will resume my search for Prince Charming in the spring. Thanks Jo
