Hi, Mo a 5 year old horsefield is experiencing its first hibernation. Mo had an examination from the vet prior to hibernation to ensure he/she was in good health and worm free. I'm very apprehensive about the process and would like reassurance. I'm using the fridge method and Mo was place in the hibernation box on Friday 20/11 after following the wind down procedures. I probably check on it too much. When I lift Mo from the box to check that she hasn't urinated etc, her eyes remain closed with her tail very tightly tucked away but she spreads her arms and legs like a starfish. Is this okay? She went into hibernation quite quickly but can stir when I investigate.

Hello, Yes that's seems all good. Don't take it out of the box, weigh the box as well, once a week to start with, then fortnightly. I suggest 3mths hibe. this 1st time. Continue to follow the TPG hibe instructions carefully. Regards, Tom ps 3-5C.

Thanks for the response Tom, I was only considering a shorter hibernation of 6-8 weeks for its first one. I don't think my nerves could cope with any longer 😧

Keep careful weight records next year & you will be confident to give it 5 months - 3 months less than in 'the wild' !
