Hi. I'm new to all this and reading lots of information and getting a little confused. We have about a four month old horse field who is gorgeous. Just worried about night time. I switch off the heat bulb and the uvb and it took her hours to come round in the morning. I was advised it was getting too cold for her at night and she may be sitting down as she was so young. So past few nights had heat lamp on but further away so it wasn't as warm. Got a 2watt heat mat to put behind the glass on the tortoise table. But it hardly gives out any heat. What should the temp be at night in the boxed area of a tortoise table for a very young tortoise. I know she is settling as she is now eating and drinking and pooing and weeing which makes me happy but tonight is the first night with the heat mat and no heat lamp. So hoping she will be okay in the morning. What do you suggest is the best stuff for the floor. Was advised on something called snake ...(can't remember the name. But has a snake on the front. Do horse fields like soil. Any advice would be fab. She is so so lovely. Many thanks

Hello, The usual lack of advice from a pet trader. You are right to turn off the heat at night, room temp is fine. The "boxed area" you refer to is unnecessary, it's best to block off access for now, or remove it. It's a gimmick to justify the cost. Your tort will warm up more quickly without it. Where is the glass on your tort table ? They don't normally have any. Post a pic of the setup, if you can. Substrate - quite right, use a good depth of soil from the garden. Your tort could be 4 months or 40 months, by the way. Pet Trade horsfields are all imported, there are no age records. Regards, Tom
