Bladder or kidney stones Posted: 20/04/2016 by Dferrara |

Hi my Herman tortoise is 14 years old, I got him when he was 8weeks old. During the night he passed two egg shaped hard stone like things, they are quite big and I was so very shocked! Does anybody know if they are bladder or kidney stones and will he be ok?? Underneath him there is a reddish line and he looks swollen by his tail end, I've bathed him and he is eating normally. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Debbie

Hello, You state "egg shaped," I assume that you tried to crack them in case they ARE eggs. Torts are commonly wrongly sexed, even by 'experts.' If they're not eggs this is a veterinary matter - asap. Overfeeding calcium is a possible cause. Tom
