Pyramiding new owner advice Posted: 04/06/2016 by Kf71 |

hi We have had our little tortoise for just over a week and have been doing lots of research to ensure we look after him well. We are worried about shell pyramiding . I have attached photograph - please advise if he looks healthy and can you give advice on how much he should be eating ? I have the book from the tortoise lady with plants/weeds etc but not sure how often /how much he should be eating . He is 1.5 years. He lives in a tortoise table with uv light . We are currently building an outdoor enclosure . Thank you for any advice

Hello, It's not possible to see if it has MBD from the pic., or indeed if it is healthy. If it's from a pet dealer it will be imported & wild caught. If so they will not know it's age. Many have problems sooner or later. 'Research' should have lead to warnings re. horsfields. Let us hope that yours does well. Provided you remove all heat/light for at least 12 hours a day & feed only weeds, it's unlikely to overfeed. What are the white 'bits' in the substrate ? Keep the outside enclosure simple & I guess you know they tunnel. Extend the pen it grows. Regards, Tom
