Best age to buy new tort Posted: 27/07/2016 by OrangeNeil |

Hi, I am going to be buying my first tortoise in the next few weeks. Have done months of research and built a tortoise table for inside, and set up space in the garden incase we ever get a summer. I have found two local breeders. Both breed the tortoises themselves and offer advice etc. So it seems they are genuine. But my question is, is there an ideal age for the tortoise to be when you but it? One is 11 weeks old, comes with A10 and is 90 pounds (sorry, the pound symbol doesn't seem to work on my keyboard...) The other would be just over year old, comes with A10 certificate and Registered with AHVLA (previously Defra) and 125 pounds. Both are Hermann tortoises. Obviously I'd rather save 35 quid, but would a year old tort be better? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Neil

Hello Neil, I am a breeder as well. At 11 weeks you will have nothing to fear - they are an absolute delight ! Regards, Tom
