Have just bought some petunias for Queenie but was wondering if it's only the flowers she can eat or the whole plant and how many can she have. Also I seen a perennial in the garden centre called Iceland Poppy (Garden Gnome)' are these a yes or a no no when it comes to writing up the days menu.

Hi there Petunia leaves and flowers are both OK, as for quantitiy, feed as part of a varied diet. Iceland Poppy I think is one of the papavars, which contain alkaloids, so personally I would not feed these, although Im hoping soemone more knowledgeable about plants will confirm this for me. One thing to remember if buying new plants from garden centres etc, it to always wait for the new growth to come through before feeding to your tortoise - water containing fertiliser is often sprayed over the plants, and the residue remains on the leaves. I wouldnt worry - these plants dont seem to be toxic, just not something you would not want to feed on a regular basis atb Arlene
