can anyone please tell me is there any way you can out a age to a tort? does this depend on the speces of the tort aswell? please let me know thankyou so much for taking your time to read this i hope someone can help me out :) tammy | |

Hi Tammy, no there isn't any particular way you can tell the age of a tort just by looking at it. As you say,it can depend on the species, different species grow at different rates and there are also size differences between related sibling tortoises, so it isnt easy. What type of tortoise do you have, post a picture its always nice to see other torts! Regards Vivienne | |

Hi Tammy, with the older ones, a pointer to how old they could be, is with how worn their shells are. We have some that have age 'estimates' of between 50 and 80 years old, and an old gentleman who has been described as 'ancient' because his shell is so beautifully worn..........plus he is a bit on the doddery side! thankyou so much for all yor replys... they are tunisians,i know they dont grow very big but a old lady gave these to me before she died as she knows i would give them loads of love and all the care they need (lucky me) and i never got to find out the age of these guys so i wondered if anyone could tel me how i would find out.... would the weight help me know???

Hi as sad before it is very difficult to age a tort, other than saying its a baby, juvenile or adult. It would be a good idea to post some pictures of the torts, just to see if anyone can give a rough idea? (not promising though!!) Regards Vivienne | |
