I've been getting topsoil from a firm called Beesley & Fildes to do work in my garden, can I use this for my torts outdoor enclosure.

Hi Winnie,

Any idea if it is merely topsoil or whether it has been treated at all?

Not to sure on that Darren but it doesn't look like all soil if you know what I mean. It looks like it has bits if bark in it. It's just that if I stick to the screened topsoil in the bags I'll needs loads and loads of it, so not sure what to use for the best.

If you are unsure then stick to the screened bags from B&Q or Homebase. You could ask your local Beesley's to find out what is in it for you.

Hi Winnie,

I'd be sceipticle too, if you're not sure what it contains.

Can you not take general soil from elsewhere in your garden for the enclosure and add a layer of screened topsoil? Then replace the general soil you have taken from elsewhere in your garden with the new stuff you're not sure about?

The rest of the garden has all been redone/nearly done and it's been filled with the topsoil from Beesleys as it was mostly clay. Oh well!, looks like it's back to B & Q for the screened topsoil, I'll ask if they do it in bigger bags. Can I just ask also, I've put wire mesh around the sides and down into the soil but have only gone down apx 8 inches, is this enough as I have a horrible feeling it isn't. Different people are saying different depths.
