Hello there, my 5 and 3 yr old tortoises have their basking lamp on all night, (as recommended by the useless pet shop who sold them to me) I turn the temp down to 22, as I no longer trust one single bit of advice given by the particular pet shop, is the temp ok, or can I turn the thermostat down completely? Hi Kerry, yes you can if your tortoises are Hermanns, Horsefields or similar species. Unless your house is a very cold and draughty one there is usually no need for heating when tortoises are indoors. Lots of us that keep our Mediterranean tortoises outdoors as much as possible don't worry if temps go down to 10C at night. It is important though that they are not wet and cold at the same time (not a problem indoors!). I think its actually better for them to have some contrast between day and night temps. | |
