Mouth problems
Posted: 18/12/2009 by Sophie Shaw

Hello,

My tortoise, Maggie, has small dark lump near the left side of her mouth. It is about 3mm across and I feel quite sure it has grown in the past 4 months. She is approximatley 4 years old so it is quite noticable of her small face. The edges are slighty raised from her skin but it is firmly attached from the centre. She is eating fine and looks otherwise very healthy just wondering whether I should find a vet for them to take a closer look.

Any help/ideas muchly appreciated.

Hi Sophie,

Were always told to look out for lumps and bumps so it;s good that you've noticed this. If the bump does seem to be getting bigger rather than going away theres no harm in gettting a vets opinion. Its quite difficult to assess what it might be so I'd always say seek professional advice. It might well be nothing but always worth checking especially when its on the head.

You can find a list of recommended tortoise vets at

Hope this helps a bit,

Dave.
