FOOD AND WEIGHT Posted: 05/01/2010 by paula2812 |

Hi everyone, Our 2 horsefields seem not to be gaining weight, since Nov 20th Bolt has stayed the same at 44g and Sparkey has gained 3g in that time going to 55g (they are about 8 months old). Also we are finding it hard to find the dandelions and mallow for feeding due to the heavy snow that we keep getting. Snowed in at moment my son James is loving not been in school and out with friends sledging. Can anyone recommend a suitable diet other than what can be bought at pet shops (dont want to give them this type of food as always had natural) ie any salad bags. All suggestions would be most welcolme, many thanks, Paula

Hiya, I found that my little Horsfields slowed up with their eating and put on little additional weight during the autumn (now hibernating). With the feeding, the Florette crispy salad bags are often recommended andyou can try things like watercress and rocket occasionally. A good mix remains the key. There are some garden plants with survive this weather and I've found Campanula to be really useful in the colder times of the year. Have a look at this site for some feeding ideas too http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/site/tortoise_home_1.asp
Hope this helps | |

Winter Pansies! thats another one from the garden centre, allow them to "weather" outside for a few weeks before feeding.
