ceramic heater Posted: 13/02/2010 by davesears |

My indoor tortoise table is/was heated by a Exo Terra 100W 230V srew type connection, ceramic bulb. This was 2 years old. Turned it on today for the first time since my torts went into hibernation - it got up to heat and then started to arc out - sparks etc so is dead. Is there a better type of heater than using a ceramic bulb like this? For info my tort table is 0.6m x 1m. I have 1 x overhead repti glow UV tube 36" long. Heater is overhead at one end of my table. Any advice is much appreciated Dave & Cathy

Hi Dave Were you using the ceramic bulb in addition to a basking lamp? Is it just the table, or the room it is in that you are wanting to heat (if you see what I mean <g>) atb Arlene

As a basking lamp - just the table. Have just got a Sun Glo Tight beam basking lamp

Hi Dave, if its just low gentle heat you want to increase the ambient room temp you could also use a greenhouse tubular heater, otherwise the ceramic heaters are a good source of additional heat but more localised like the basking lamp. On the table they would still need the basking lamp to be a light source as well to help cover the full light spectrum that the uv doesnt cover. regards Vivienne
