My Horsefields hs been sleeping & not eating for weeks now - he seems to have hibernated early. I'm not sure why as the temperature etc is the same as last year & he was fine last year. I don't really want to leave him through the winter as he hasn't eaten for so long. Can I wake him up & if so what's the best way to do it?

How many weeks has he been hibernating, and how old is he.What has his weights been like and what are they now? also where has he been hibernating and how? Has he hibernated before and how long have you had him? Sorry for all the questions but it gives a clearer picture of the situation.

Hi,

Only had him 18 months & he hasn't hibernated before. He's about 3/4 & his weight has dropped. He's been asleep for about 2 months in his indoor box at the cold end. But I got home today & he'd moved to the other end so he's obviously decided to wake up now. I'm giving him a bath now & then going to see if he eats. He's had a drink in the bath & he's moving around.

The chances are he's not been in a proper hibernation state. What have the temps been please? In order to achieve hibernation the temps really need to be somewhat cooler than 10deg C (particularly for Horsfields). 10deg and above he's ging to be losing weight. May I ask how much weight he has lost please?

yes first either give him a warm bath and give him an eye wash then feed him
