too young to hibernate? Posted: 29/10/2010 by Kevin |

Hi, We have 2 x Marginated tortoises which we got in April this year. They were hatched in July 2009 so are around 16 months old. They are healthy & doing well, although one is much bigger than the other. Shell lengths approx 100mm & 90mm. My question is are they too young to hibernate? & if we should be hibernating them when should we do it & for how long? Thanks, Kevin

Hi Kevin, As its their first time and they are still juveniles i would only hibernate them for about 10 weeks but only do this if they are 100% healthy. Please follow our wind down procedure which you can fine here. http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/78.asp ali
