Hi All.

i have got a Powersun 100 watt  self ballasted mercury vaport UVB lamp given to me for my 4yr old Hermann who is not hibernating due to fridge probs.   How far away from his shell should it be placed and how long should i leave on for per day? The instructions are aimed at 150l terrarium. His current set up is tort table with separate UV 100w and ceramic heater but i read that the all in one bulbs and lamps are have more benefits for torts.

Hi Karen, the combined heat/uv lamps can be placed upto 12 inches from the top of the tort.  Aim to get around 35c under the lamp, if you cannot reach this temp in the basking spot then you can use a normal spot bulb just to up the temp, you wont need the ceramic heat lamp or the uv strip light.  Its best to leave it on about 8 hours, similar to our day and night cycle.
