Weight Loss
Posted: 29/12/2010 by dewly

Hi
I have 2, two and a half year old Spurthighs, Alfie and Daisey. I am fridge hibernating them and both seem to be doing really well. At the beginning of hibernation (just before I put them in the fridge) Alfie weighed 99g and Daisey weighed 88g. Alfie lost nothing at all through the wind down period and Daisey lost just a couple of grammes.
They have now been in the fridge for 3 weeks and 2 days. I have just weighed them for the third time and Alfie has still lost nothing!! Daisey has gone from 88g to 85.5 grammes in three weeks. Is this ok?? I've heard that they should not loose any more than 10% of their body weight so when she reaches 80 grammes shall I wake her up??
The way things are going at the moment that will be in approx 5 weeks time so she would have been hibernated 8 weeks.
If Alfie has still kept a good body weight can I leave him a little longer??
Thank you and also thank you for every ones help and support over the last 18 months.
Julie

Hi Julie,

As you say they can lose upto 10% of the body weight so that would be 8.8g in Daisys case, so this may mean a little longer, but you may find she wont lose or much more, so just keep checking as you are, you are doing a great job, well doneClick and drag me down to the editor.
