I've got a somewhat unusual problem and at a loss what to do.
My Ibera has been very happy since I got him, no problems whatsoever. About 2 weeks ago he started making these horrible noises, that scare the life out of me. It sounds like he's crying or in pain. The funny thing is that apart from that his behavious is normal, he's eating normally, maybe even more, pooing at a normal rate, and struts around as if nothing is wrong. He only does those noises when he's sleeping, although sometimes with hours in between. I initially I though he might have breathing problems, but his mouth stays shut and he's never showed any signs of RNS. I took him to a vet, who told me to give him some baytril on his nostrils to clear up any infections. I know now that he didn't really know that much about tortoises, as other people told me it's not very useful. But I did that and it looked like it was getting better but now he started again, although not that freqently. Is it something serious?

Hi Personally I would find a good tortoise vet and take him for an examination to find out if there is a reason why he makes those noises. As he is eating and functioning Ok I wouldn't be too concerned, but it will put your mind at rest. Jane

Hi, have you tried just gently pressing the soft area under his beak, this may blow any blockages out, for peace of mind though, I would take him to a specialist tortoise vet
