Hi to our site. Your tortoise is a Hermanns. Please read our care sheet, here is the link http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/88.asp. Any questions please fire away! Regards Vivienne

Hello there...you lucky thing! This is a great time of year to get a tortoise, I am presuming she will have a suitable outdoor pen, due to her size. Include a cloche or small poly tunnel for grey days ( Pound Shop!), they do up the temperature by several degrees. This site should provide absolutely all the info a Hermann's tort keeper needs for day to day management. One thing I would do is search out a good vet now, so that if there is ever a crisis, you are just a phone call away from help. Not all vets are particularly clued up on tortoises, but some are really on the ball! Here is a link to the list of vets TPG members have used with success .http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/files/VetlistApril20009.pdf Hopefully one is near to you. If you reply and tell us your general area, another member might let you know of an exotics vet near to you. Also worth pointing out is that for every posted query or issue here, there are hundreds of happy healthy torts, benefiting from management techniques suggested here...but I would still source a vet earlier than later, for peace of mind. Good luck with your new beastie. Regards, David nr York
